The UNDP Capacity Management Group based on the rich and productive experience of former cooperation in emergency management with the Armenian Rescue Service of the RA Ministry of Emergency Situations intends to implement longer term projects here.

Aimed at defining directions of further joint actions it is necessary to understand what the system needs.

During the last meeting UN Deputy Resident Representative Dirk Boberg mentioned that Armenia is a vanguard in emergency management among the countries of the South Caucasus region.

Edik Barseghyan, ARS Director, First Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations said,-“It is not a secret that according to the conclusion made by prominent international organizations Armenia is in the zone of seismic risk. The seismic risk is very high here. There is also natural and manmade disaster risk, landslide risk and we must undertake all possible and impossible measures to reduce the risks to their maximum.”


UNDP Experts Mission Group Member Naijl Koulsen said,-“The Armenian Rescue Service has rich experience and thinks to modernize, conform its plans to international standards in the second decade of the 21st century. I am impressed with the ARS present capacity very much”.

During the meeting the needs of the detachments of the Ministry of Emergency Situations were outlined, on the basis of which further steps will be developed. In the result there will be taken one more step towards the desirable international standards in the field of risk management and reduction.
