Disasters by children eyes

Having the aim to increase the reputation of rescue service as well as the awareness and knowledge of children on emergencies and ways of fighting against them in the framework of public awareness project ,,Fire fighters in communities'' among the school children of 6-8 classes of Tavush, Vayots-Dzor and Gegharkunik Marzes were announced compositions of pictures championship.

Children were offered to discuss the topic with their family members and write a composition on,, Emergency situations in your life''. The title of pictures championship was,, Disasters and ways of fight against them by children's eyes''. The results of the championship will be summarized till October 10. And till that time we are presenting to your attention some works of championship participants.

I live in Artsvakar district of Gavar town. Our territory as well as all Republic can not avoid natural disasters: earthquakes, flooding, landslides, lightening, fires and hails. It is very difficult to fight against natural disasters but when people know that they are not alone in any case they just can take phone and call 1-01 and immediately rescuers and fire fighters will arrive to affected area and under these consequences it does not seem so terrible to fight against natural disasters.

This spring we again had an opportunity to be certain of fact that our rescuers and fire fighters are high qualified and are working with selflessly. The flooding of Gavaraget river which is passing through our village was so severe that river went out of its banks and flooded buildings, ruined all bridges, took away a number of animals. As a result of selflessly activities of rescue service of Gegharkunik Marz the population was evacuated in time. And because of this fact we did not have human loses.
Since my childhood it seems to me that rescuers are supermen. Seven years ago I was the witness of such kind of accident: Cattle house of our neighbor was burning. All street was in panic, but nobody could do anything. But when we heard signs of fire track to distance one could see the flame of hope in our eyes. Fire fighters immediately arrived and began extinguish the fire. All of us were appreciating fire fighters for the huge work they did for our neighbors but the most surprising thing was that in the eyes of saved animals you also could see the appreciation.

Armenia is home for all Armenians. Since historical times Armenians lived in this land and gained the right to live and work here. Yes, Armenian likes his stone full country, its whimsical nature. Nature not always was so willful to Armenian. Very often after the fight against enemies when he returned home he suddenly recognized that was unable to fight against natural disasters. Especially earthquakes are the most terrible disaster for our country and very often after earthquakes Armenian could not find even a single construction which had not been ruined. So, our city of thousand cathedrals Ani became the victim of earthquake and after few minutes only nice memories remind us about this magic city. Because of the earthquake our next wonderful city Zvartnots was fully destroyed. The same was the situation with Gyumry the population of which was smiling and laughing even during war but suddenly the sound of their laugh stopped.

Our mountains which always protected us from our enemy have one dangerous characteristic. They can cause landslides covering roads and houses by Armenian stones and soil. Very often we have another type of natural disaster- flooding which annually destroy a number of houses.

Yes, it is difficult to forecast natural disasters but we can correctly protect from them. Every one must know how he must act in case of emergencies. I am sure that man is powerful creation against which even the nature can not do anything.

It is nice when somebody is boating or is flying by airplane. But it is much better when you feel land under your feet after long boating or flying.

Sometimes it also happens when land suddenly begins shaking. Laps are shaking, doors are opening and closing, creaks are appearing in the walls. People are in panic and are running out. It is earthquake...

Its excellence nature is very mystic. It creates such conditions when people become powerless. The most important thing in this condition is correct orientation.

Very often employees of our regional rescue service visit our school and have discussions with school children on different topics. They teach us how we must act in case of earthquake in order to reduce risks and threats. But to my mind we(schoolchildren) and population of the district are still not fully aware about the reasons of natural disasters occurring and are nor fully realizing our way of behavior and roll in emergencies.

That day it was very hot. Darkness had covered our village. Suddenly I heard voices in the middle of night it seemed to me that was a dream. I just turned the other side and slept. In early morning when I got up I was frightened. Gavaraget River flooded, came out of its banks.

I run out and saw who Govaragert was taking away from our village all he had: our animals, bread, flour, seeds. I saw a woman who was crying; "Please help, my children are at home".

It was so terrible, it was so painful for me, but when I saw that rescue service arrived I was glad and happy. fire-fighters were fighting not with a fire but with a water which had covered our houses, they were doing everything to rescue people. Fishermen were transporting population by their boats. Seeing that rescuers and population are trying to fight against disaster together I also became stronger felt some carriage in my hart I also started to help them to build a wall from sandbags.

In past when I heard expression "emergency situation" it seemed to me that it is some extraordinary situation and if it is extraordinary it must be nice one, us if a boy is very smart very often people call him extraordinary boy, if fruit is very tasty we call it extraordinary fruit and etc.

But then I understood that emerge3ncy situation is very bed thing. emergency situation is included wars, disasters, accidents and so on. From very day of their creation people are fighting against each other and are killing each other. Almost every day we are hearing about new violence, wars and so on by TV. People are killing each other as if they have nothing more to do. We are creating new weapons testing them without realizing that it is very dangerous for Earth. I think that this testing is causing natural disasters: flooding, earthquake, fire. We must realize all this and try to correct the mistakes of elder generations. We must study well, must become a good specialist, become extraordinary generation and rescue our extraordinary Earth from emergencies.

...Sometimes in life accidents occur because of unconsciousness of people. We must understand the importance of provision of first aid from early years in order to be able to provide it in case of necessity.

But who must teach it?

I am ready to learn it with great pleasure as I realize that it has vital importance for me.

It was quit and sunny winter midday. Me and my sister were playing our favorite game. Suddenly we heard a terrible noise. We were standing and shaking and we were keeping silence looking each other. Then my sister cried that it is an earthquake, we run out. People gathered in the street were speaking about earthquake with horror. We were afraid. Than my mother told us about severe earthquake of 1988 and advised us how behave in such situations. During next days shocks repeated. I always was running away. Days and months passed as well as my fear. But I think that sometimes people are powerless when we speak about powerful nature. People must have knowledge in order to be able to protect themselves in such situations.

Emergency situations occur very often in the Earth: earthquake, accident, crash, terrorism an so one. I fell horror every time when I hear about this kind of situations by TV. When I read about earthquake of 1988 I fear to imagine in what situation people were. What is the false of the people, who are dieing in emergencies.

It is natural that sometimes in the Earth natural disasters occur and it is impossible to prevent them that is why people must be ready to fight against them. We already know how must act in earthquakes and after them. For now special department for emergency situations has been established. The employees of this department are helping people in emergency situations- floorings, strong winds, fires and etc. Let God help us to avoid man-made emergencies  terrorism, crashes, and accidents.

We also had emergency situation. Once in the evening my mother ate a pinch and its stone stayed in her throat. My mother felt so bed. We were beating her back, but stone was still there. We took my mother to ambulance hospital but unfortunately doctors could do nothing. At least my father came and rescued my mother. We get over emergency situation and I was very glad.

...A long time passed but I still remember our air plane crash in Black Sea . And now when by TV we often hear about emergencies, natural disasters I fell horror in my heart, sadness covers my soul and I desire that all the nations in the world can avoid disasters and emergencies.
